Integrated Community-Based Health Program

ADDRO’s health program was focused mainly on carrying out malaria intervention activities in communities. However, drawing many years of experience on community health coupled with the benefits of applying integrated approach to health issues, the organization has expanded its health focus to include: Malaria, HIV/AIDS, TB and Hepatitis. ADDRO has employed a qualified staff with many years of experience in public health practice to oversee the activities of the Integrated Community-Based Health Program.

Community Development Projects

Originally, ADDRO was involved in general community development projects in four of eight districts of the Upper East Region (UER), but have since widely expanded activities, working in fifteen districts within six regions of Ghana.

It is the NetsforLife (malaria programme) that is in all the regions. Since the inception of this programme ADDRO has distributed over 990,304 LLINs through its community entry approach and enhanced mass distribution campaigns. Results of an external evaluation of these activities demonstrate a remarkable increase in LLIN possession and utilization in the partners target areas of Ghana (see Figure 2 below).

We believe that God’s love, and peace can only be found in a community based upon right relations. Hence we seek to rebuild communities by supporting and aligning with the poor, the vulnerable, the disadvantaged and the oppressed in their struggle for justice as well as to advocate for changes to policies and practices that contribute to the perpetuation of injustices; seeking to uphold God’s inclusive call to promote the dignity and the rights of all human beings. To this end, ADDRO is committed to making life better for all people by working in seven thematic areas in order to create the most holistic impact on communities.

Collaborative Projects

ADDRO has identified, developed and implemented innovative development programmes in collaboration with International partners in the past and present including Diakonia (Sweden), Sight Savers International (UK), Water AID (UK), Oxfam (UK), CORDAID (The Netherlands), Episcopal Relief and Development (USA), Anglican Relief Fund (USA),Trinity Grants (USA) and USAID/PMI (USA).

The Organization also has very strong working relationships with many agencies and institutions at the regional, district and community levels such as Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), Ghana Education Service, Ghana Health Service, District Assemblies, Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and the media (print, radio and television) as well as Unit Committees, Associations, Area Councils, community leaders, religious bodies, Community based organizations and relevant NGOs..

The development achievements of ADDRO and its partners have been great, notable in the reduction of poverty, food insecurity, malnutrition, HIV/AIDS, malaria, water related diseases and gender -based discrimination as well as sight impairments .It is estimated that over one four million (4,000,000) people, particularly women and children, are impacted directly and indirectly by ADDRO’s development activities, which undoubtedly is improving the living conditions of the rural communities.”
