What We do

Organisation and Work

The Anglican Church of Northern Ghana started its first development project in 1971, undertaking irrigation farming projects. In 1978, the church launched the Anglican Church Agricultural Project (ACAP) with the aim of meeting the needs of the poor. The work of ACAP gave the Church the opportunity to interact with the communities, and made the Church realized that there were greater needs, problems and inequalities in the area. This led to the establishment of more overt community development projects by parishes and certain individual members of the church. However, these projects in different parishes and districts were uncoordinated to reduce waste and maximize the impact of such programs on the beneficiaries until 1996 when the church decided to consolidate its development work through the establishment of the Anglican Diocese and Development Relief Office (ADDRO). In 2006, the word ‘Office’ was changed to an ‘Organization’. ADDRO has been very proactive with a commitment to addressing long-term development needs focused on reducing poverty, hunger, malaria, HIV/AIDS, water borne diseases, gender discrimination and suffering caused by natural disasters and conflict. It became an incorporated (registered as a local NGO) Organization with recognition and approval of the Government of Ghana via the Registrar General Department as a legal Limited Liability Company. It is also registered with the Social Welfare Department.
